I want America to be a good, responsible, and compassionate world citizen. But make no mistake about it, when push comes to shove, I’m going to put the needs of my own country first.   I think this is an entirely natural and appropriate thing to do--just as a parent worries first about feeding his own children, before he worries about feeding anybody else.

There are a number of areas where I believe we’re currently paying too little attention to our own people’s needs.
