SYNOPSIS: The more image-based business becomes, the more images are spun to convince us otherwise.
If were waiting for the existing cognitive order to show us the way out of the predicament in which we now find ourselves, were apt to wait a long time. To date, the voices of the media, as well as those of the political and business establishment, have failed to give even the barest acknowledgement of the reorientation from a practical to a cognitive basis that has transformed our economic and social environment.
For the most part, they have actually gone in the opposite direction. Rather than help open our eyes to the undermining of more traditional business principles and standards, they have continued to tout the socially beneficial expectations of a different era as if these were as immutable as the laws of gravity, and in the process put business up on such a high pedestal that many people now regard it as a healthy, vital, and much-needed source of social rejuvenation.
This puts the economic world of our perceptions fundamentally out of synch with the realm in which we actually operatea disconnect that has become evident even in our most ordinary speech and conversations.
